The Chips Are Down

I wanted to announce that I will be collaborating on bringing the screen play The Chips Are Down to the stage. I am so excited to be working with an extremely talented director and group of actors. I love the art of collaboration and look forward to discovering, playing and analyzing text with a group of creative people. I will keep you all posted on our progress.

Playbill Clip

So I have not written in a while but had something to share today. As you might be aware I work with a wonderful company named Only Make Believe.  Playbill came by my site the other day to tape us in action...now you can really see a bit about what I do.

***and just ignore that I am wearing an over sized shirt that day...my normal one was dirty. So I look like a kids who stole her Dad's shirt.

I had an audition last week for Hamlet...and I realized how out of practice I am. Time to get back in the saddle and charge ahead. It is a great thing that I am now brushing up my Shakespeare with the Pearl. Next stop Lady M...I feel a new monologue coming on.

Watch out casting directors here comes the gremlin!

Class 1

I had my first class with the Pearl on Monday and it was fabulous. I am with a great group of actors and we are going to have a blast working on these Shakespeare scenes. My first role is Rosalind in As You Like It...and let me tell you it is a beast. I am so happy to have this challenge early on and I am falling in love with this character. I am so excited to see where this goes and I know I will come out of this 8 week class with a better understanding of how to tackle text, emotion and action!

I am in a BOOK

I just found out that I am in a published book. The Best plays from the Strawberry One-Act Festival: Volume 2.

Did this play a while back...made it to the semi-finals. Wow nice to have this for the archives!

Crafting anyone?

I am embarking on a 6 week course with the Pearl Conservatory. I am so excited to do something that is simply for me. A way to continue working on my craft and to realize why I still try to do this whole "acting" thing.  I am looking forward to meeting some new actors and to work with such a reputable company. I also like the fact that we had to submit our resume (only serious actors wanted) and if they thought they were not up to snuff we had to come in and audition for the class. I am pleased to say that I was considered "serious" enough...no audition needed.  Well wish me luck and I will keep y'all posted on how it goes.

Funny Story

Over a month ago I submitted my headshot and resume to a theatre company because I was unable to attend their auditions. Well today I received an email from the Executive Director telling me that the actress they had cast in the role I submitted for dropped out so she wanted to know two things:

1- Could I make a last moment audition by 5:30?

2- Do I really look like my headhsots...because if I do... I "look" or am way too young for the role. And what was my real age (curiosity)?

I assured her that I do indeed look like my headshot and that I just had them taken (4 months ago) and that I did not have any touch ups done to them. I then sent her 2 unprofessional & recent pictures of me to prove my case.

This is the headshot I sent

A picture taken...when I was tired, sweaty and after a 7 mile ride

This was my latest picture (2 weeks ago)

I was not asked to come in for the emergency audition.

The role was for a woman in her early 30's...what was I thinking????

As I mentioned a few days ago I was about to shoot my piece for the Sonnet Project up in the Bronx. Let me just say I had a blast and even the locals came out to cheer us on. Carmello (local) asked if this was how all the  "soon to be big name" actors started out. I said we hope so! The location was great, the text is beyond compare and the crew was professional and fun. Let me say it are days like that...that make me proud to be an artist.  Yes... I know I am a starving, no name actor who is still trying to "make it" what ever that means in this damn city. BUT when I get a chance to watch the sunset while saying lines like:

But why of two oaths' breach do I accuse thee,
When I break twenty? I am perjured most;

it all seems worth it. Well at least it does today.

Trust me folks they go up...and up...span at least 4 avenues!!!

back in the day...

So my sister was in town and I was digging through old photos when I came across some from my middle school acting days. It's great to be reminded about how I knew from an early age that this was my passion...now if I can only make it to Broadway before I am 80...argh!!!
